BLADDER CANCER TREATMENT

Superficial bladder cancer is a tumor that does not penetrate the muscular layer of the wall and is located on the mucous membrane. Transurethral resection of the bladder is used to treat this type of cancer.

During TUR, a biopsy of the bladder walls is also performed from areas around the tumor.

A distinctive feature of the operation is that there are no incisions on the patient's body:

- It is performed using a special instrument (resectoscope), which is inserted into the bladder through the urethra.

- A special optical device is inserted through the resectoscope into the bladder cavity, which displays images on a monitor screen.

- The tumor is removed using a loop at the end of the resectoscope, through which high-power electric current passes.

For small tumors, specifically bladder tumors that do not extend beyond the bladder wall, they can be removed through the urethra without making any skin incisions – TUR. For such operations, the number of tumors or their size is not important; the effectiveness of operations largely depends on the surgeon's expertise.

In terms of effectiveness, this operation has significant advantages. The short recovery period and minimal risk of postoperative complications make transurethral resection the 'gold standard' in the treatment of superficial bladder tumor processes.
