Treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (formerly prostate adenoma) includes several methods when conservative therapy is ineffective. Classical open surgery methods are rarely used at the current stage of medical technology development.
Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP)
- - The current gold standard of surgical treatment is transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), meaning removal of prostate tissue through the urethra using stationary instruments.
- This operation is the most widely performed in the world. First performed at the Mayo Clinic (USA) in 1939. Over nearly a century of use, significant technological advances have reduced postoperative complications and risks to fractions of a percent.
Treatment with Bipolar Plasmakinetic Prostate Resection:
- Our urology department has implemented and widely uses the method of bipolar plasmakinetic prostate resection using the most advanced equipment manufactured in Germany, Japan and the USA.
A distinctive feature of surgical care in our department is the ability to individually select the instrumental setup for each specific patient.
This applies to the anatomical characteristics of the urethra, previously performed procedures and surgical interventions on the urinary tract, and the volume of hypertrophied tissue.
The plasmakinetic resection method combined with vaporization in the surgical area ensures a shorter postoperative period of 2-3 days and rapid postoperative rehabilitation.
This distinguishes the technologies of our urology department from other urological institutions.
